Ross Carlyon bio

Ross Carlyon
BA, DipEd, Dip School Admin, BEd, MEd Studies, MCEPA

Ross has had a successful career across government and non-government schooling sectors in Australia and internationally, both as a teacher and as an administrator.  His first teaching appointment was with the NSW Dept of Education; his first appointment as Principal was in an isolated church boarding school in the Solomon Islands; his first Australian Christian School appointment was as a classroom teacher at Heritage in Port Macquarie.  Over the years God has used Ross to intervene in situations, particularly in schools, that have required interim leadership.  He has worked as a trainer and workshop developer.  Ross also brings experience as a Christian Mission executive with a particular focus on the Pacific Region.  He has a particular interest in the strengths movement, enabling people to build on their God-given strengths while managing their weaknesses.

What Students Say

  • I found study with the Institute extremely valuable and effective in prompting changes, reflections and constructive self assessment in my teaching practices within the context of the Gospel.
  • This was an excellent course. I wish I had done it much earlier on as it lays down the foundation for understanding the history and purpose of Christian education. I would recommend it.
  • It never fails to amaze me how, as I study each Institute course, I come to certain realisations about areas of my teaching that I need to modify/change. Areas that I have been 'blind' to are highlighted through the study material and I have an opportunity to make adjustments that potentially could result in improved ways of teaching for me, and improved ways of learning for my students as I consider their learning needs to a far greater extent.
