What We Offer

The National Institute for Christian Education offers a range of teacher education professional development activities at a post-graduate level. These include:

  • certificates in Christian education
  • school based professional learning events
  • online resources
  • in-service workshop days
  • multiday intensive seminars
  • consulting services
  • conferences
  • publications.

The National Institute for Christian Education also offers accredited programs of study. These programs include:

  • Bachelor of Education (BEd) conversion to 4 year trained status
  • Graduate Diploma in Education (GradDipEd)
  • Master of Education (MEd) for qualified teachers
  • Master of Education - Leadership (MEd (Leadership)) for non-teachers to study in an accredited program with the Institute.

Although our activities and courses address current educational issues and use material written from a range of worldview perspectives, the orientation of our presentation is unashamedly Christian. We work hard at identifying worldview assumptions in prevailing ideas and seek to assist educational practitioners in critiquing structures and practices and incorporating insights into a coherent and consistent praxis.

The National Institute for Christian Education is indebted to its reformational heritage, which emphasises the formative authority of the whole Bible for the whole of life. The National Institute for Christian Education is committed to the premise that the Christian scriptures and especially the integrating event of the gospel of Jesus Christ need to shape our view of all things. Engagement with educational ideas and issues is approached from the perspective of a biblical worldview.

What Students Say

  • I found study with the Institute extremely valuable and effective in prompting changes, reflections and constructive self assessment in my teaching practices within the context of the Gospel.
  • This was an excellent course. I wish I had done it much earlier on as it lays down the foundation for understanding the history and purpose of Christian education. I would recommend it.
  • It never fails to amaze me how, as I study each Institute course, I come to certain realisations about areas of my teaching that I need to modify/change. Areas that I have been 'blind' to are highlighted through the study material and I have an opportunity to make adjustments that potentially could result in improved ways of teaching for me, and improved ways of learning for my students as I consider their learning needs to a far greater extent.
